Amanda Middleton
Amanda is elated to be your Miss National US 2011. Along with the challenges of pageantry she loves and appreciates the opportunity they offer as well as the constant chance to be a role model and community leader. Amanda enjoys scrapbooking, volunteering, fishing, reading, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog Heath! She refers to herself as a “tomgirl” because of her extreme girlyness and love for the outdoors. This early education major at Schreiner University believes in the importance of literacy. That being said, her platform is children’s literacy, which she promotes in conjunction with her nonprofit organization.
Community service is important to Amanda because it builds character and a better community. Amanda is very involved in the Susan G Komen Foundation, and has done more than walk for and raise money for cancer awareness and research; she has actually done the research! As an intern at the U.T. Health Science Center San Antonio, Amanda has explored cancer research and even has several medical papers and journals published. She is also passionate about Girl Scouts and served as the young adult advisor for troop # 7. Now, she stays active with the organization as a whole and works with other troops as needed. Amanda is also active in Girl Talk, a nationally accredited mentoring program for middle-school girls that meets weekly. She looks forward to continuing to work with United Way, an organization her family frequently supports with monetary donations and their time.
Amanda’s goal is to make a difference, to motivate others to be involved, and to spread the importance of literacy. She intends to leave others with the lasting impression that Miss National US does more than sign autographs and take pictures; she motivates others to reach out and give back!
